Theresa Griffin, Afzal Khan and Julie Ward have been newly-elected as MEPs for the North West of England.
Theresa Griffin MEP said:
"I am proud to have led a fantastic team in the 2014 European elections, working closely with thousands of NW Labour members. Crucially, we can say that, thanks to the work of our activists and the trade union movement, no longer does the racist, fascist BNP represent the communities of my region in the European Parliament.
"I am delighted Labour topped the poll in the European elections in the North West, missing out on the fourth seat by just 0.7%."
Afzal Khan MEP said:
"I am honoured to be elected to represent the people of the North West at the European Parliament. I will work hard to improve the lives of people in Britain, and fight hard against the rise of extremism in Europe."
Julie Ward MEP said:
"I am thrilled to be elected to represent the North West of England in the European Parliament. From Crewe to Carlisle, the diversity of the people and landscape represents the very best of what makes Britain great.
"Making the case for more coherent connections between the rural hinterland and the cities and towns of the region will be an important part of my work."
