Michael Cashman MEP, Labour's spokesperson for Justice and Home Affairs, said: "Member states will now have effective tools in the prevention, investigation and detection of serious crime across the EU."
Michael Cashman MEP continued: "The Tories would have us believe that we fight cross border crime and national crime by isolating ourselves from the rest of the world. The reality is that trafficking of people and drugs as well as other serious crime can only be defeated by working in conjunction with other countries throughout the EU and in the wider world."
The exchange of DNA data, fingerprints and other information will be accompanied by strengthened rules on personal data protection.
Michael Cashman MEP emphasised: "Any information that passes between member states will adhere strongly to data protection rules and the necessary civil rights protections."
