The "European Qualifications Framework" (EQF) is a really practical way in which the EU can support the mobility of learners and workers between Member States It makes the process of comparing qualifications more transparent and emphasis will be on learning outcomes - what a person knows, understands and is able to do once they have completed their training. The EQF will make a real contribution to the Lisbon agenda by strengthening the internal market.
The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) will allow the value of qualifications to be judged and will help with the pursuit of lifelong learning. The EQF will enable employers to judge the profile and relevance of qualifications and allow education and training providers to compare the content of their own offers to those of other providers.
Euro MP Claude Moraes, Labour's European spokesperson on Employment and Social Issues, said: "Lots of people want to go and work abroad but find it difficult as their qualifications are not recognised in other countries. This legislation will help in breaking down these barriers to employment. Older workers will also benefit as the legislation puts an emphasis on lifelong learning."
