We must find a constructive way forward on both SWIFT and PNR - Cashman

Parliament must avoid shrill anti-Americanism and push for a balanced solution.


Michael Cashman MEP, Labour's spokesperson in the European Parliament on Justice and Home Affairs
today called upon the Parliament to move away from knee jerk anti-Americanism and instead push for a constructive resolutions on the issues of the SWIFT banking system and passenger name records (PNR). Speaking before a debate on these subjects today Mr Cashman said:

"The Parliament must not fall back on an unhelpful attitude towards the United States in its resolution but instead move forward with sensible solutions to this complex issue.

"Uppermost in are thoughts must be the rights of our citizens, balanced against the rights of the American people to set their own laws. We must not abuse our position to score cheap political points bashing America, but instead must concentrate on the hard work of fight for the rights of our citizens in a balanced and objective way.
