Labour MEPs called on eurozone countries and the Greek government to try again to agree a new bailout deal to prevent further chaos and spare the Greek people more misery following the No vote in yesterday’s referendum.
Glenis Willmott MEP, Labour’s Leader in the European Parliament, said:
“The government in Athens needs to step up to the plate, ditch the rhetoric and negotiate a credible deal, while the creditors must realise three years of never-ending austerity have failed to turn Greece around, and come up with new answers.
“Europe has survived crises before. It is in all our interests it rides this out, and emerges stronger. Now is the time for cool heads; reason must out.”
