We want a better deal from Barroso - Review of Posted Worker Directive essential - 2009-09-07

On Wednesday this week European Commission President Barroso will appear before the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament to ask for backing for his second five-year term.

Glenis Willmott MEP, Labour's Leader in the European Parliament, commented: "Before British Labour MEPs say yes or no to Barroso we want some concrete proposals from him. Frankly, we are disappointed with what he is currently proposing. If he wants a second term, he has to improve his offer. We are looking for a better deal from him."

"We want action to create employment, new and better jobs, fight mass unemployment - especially youth unemployment - promote equal pay and improve workers' rights and working conditions.  A review of the Posted Workers Directive is essential" stressed Glenis Willmott MEP.
