About me

Derek Vaughan was elected as Labour Party Member of the European Parliament for Wales in June 2009.  He is a full member of the Industry, Research and Energy Committee, and a substitute member of the Budget Committee and the Budgetary Control Committee.

Prior to life in the European Parliament he has a distinguished record in local government. He was Labour Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council and the Deputy Leader of the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA).

He is a strong advocate of the links between the Labour Party and the Trade Union movement, having previously been a full time Trade Union official. He is currently a member of the TGWU section of Unite.
